Insuring high risk cargo
The supply chain in any company is an essential link in any industry and insurance is important for protecting the interest of all stakeholders.
In South Africa there has been a surge in hijackings and armed robberies of PPE in the past two months. As a result, insurers have started implementing strict security requirements on PPE cargo.
Shipments of PPE that required cover must have their own risk profile completed to ensure that the correct cover is in place. A risk profile questionnaire should be submitted for quotation processing to ensure that any security requirements are brought to the clients’ attention.
Failure to comply with security requirements are resulting in claims for hijacking, theft or armed robbery being rejected by insurers. Personal Protection Equipment is defined as, but not limited to:
• Face Masks for both civilian and professional use
• Safe T Shields
• Protective Clothing and Gear
• Surgical gloves
• Thermo Guns
• Test Kits
Security requirements will be laid out by the insurer at time of assessment.
